Tungsten Carbide
Cemented carbides are the hardest man-made metal-matrix
composites. They are used in every major industry worldwide, from ballpoint
pens - to mining - to petroleum drilling. The unique properties of carbide
in its carious compositions and forms has made process industries and
durable goods manufacturers more efficient by reducing machine downtime.
The term cemented carbides refers to metallic carbides - fine particles
of tungsten carbide bonded or cemented together in a matrix of a metallic
element of a lower melting point such as cobalt or nickel. The process
of powder metallurgy is skillfully employed to produce cemented carbides.
Through a combination of experienced and highly motivated personnel, "next-generation"
equipment, cellular processing, and new concepts of "zero inventory"
manufacturing, Federal has become the leader in carbide die and wear components.
Federal Carbide is a vertically integrated manufacturing; our unique process
involves selecting premium raw powder, precision grading, pressing, CNC
green-machining, vacuum-sintering, sinter HIPing, CNC grinding, lapping
and polishing to fine finishes and close tolerances. Our synergistic process
allows us to produce a lower cost and deliver quickly to customers that
must maintain low inventory levels. Swift throughput cycles enable us
to go from powder to precision products within days. Consistently, emergency
customer breakdowns are remedied in less that forty eight hours. Some
of the industries that benefit from "partnering" with Federal
Carbide include: aerospace, metalforming. power generation, fluid handling,
pollution control, oil recovery and waste management.
Teamwork and rapid response to customers' changing needs highlight the
basic principles of FCC - but our constant is quality in every order we
produce, large or small. Total quality exists in all phases of our operation;
from raw materials to finished products; our standard sets the pace for
the carbide industry. Some of the continuous improvement tools we utilize
include statistical process control and team-problem solving. Our experience
and innovation are available to serve your organization.
